Onsite Computer New Orleans and Microsoft Vista SP1

Since Microsoft released Windows Vista SP1 for manual install, Onsite computer in New Orleans reports mixed results with SP1 and business clients. In March the full SP1 release was halted due to a few driver problems; however since the re-release of Vista SP1, Onsite Computer installed the latest Vista SP1 release at three New Orleans businesses.

Several PCs receiving the SP1 are reported to run smoother with business applications. Other PCs are displaying frustrating driver problems with sound cards, video cards, and DVD drives – to name a few. From Onsite’s experience, the latest results of SP1 for Vista is a beginning; however there are still several driver issues remaining to be addressed.

An Onsite client using an HP network laser printer cannot access and print with his Vista PCs, although the XP SP3 PCs remain able to print to the same network printer. This client instructed Onsite to discontinue the Vista SP1 installation until these printer driver issues are addressed. He doesn’t want to purchase another $1,000 laser printer because Vista drivers are unavailable.

In Onsite’s opinion, the release of Vista SP1 is great for existing Vista users; however SP1 is not sufficient to convince our business clients to change from XP to Vista. Stay tuned as Onsite reports on upgrades at other clients.
