We recently serviced one of Onsite’s clients in New Orleans who experienced data corruption on their Microsoft system.  According to Wikipedia, data corruption is “errors in computer data that occur during transmission or retrieval, introducing unintended changes to the original data.”  Data corruption can be a nasty problem, especially when the data is accounting information.  There are many causes of data corruption and sometimes the source is difficult to identify.  Fortunately for our client, the source of his data corruption was apparent. 

Onsite’s client was using a new laptop at his business.  The new laptop was connecting to his business network through his wireless router.  Wireless networking technology is wonderful for transferring small amounts of data, as in surfing web sites or sending small emails.  But WiFi was not designed for the flawless transmission of large amounts of data like accounting information.  Onsite’s client was corrupting his data by using his wireless laptop.
