Microsoft Morrow and the War on Malware

June 22, 2009

Microsoft business clients of Onsite Computer Services in New Orleans are always complaining about the need for ongoing protection from new and existing malware threatsMicrosoft is developing a free security scanner, codenamed ‘Morro,’ designed to integrate seamlessly with Windows 7 as well as Vista SP1/SP2 and XP SP3Microsoft recognizes the need for “Morro” in the development of emerging markets, in smaller PC form factors, and also in the face of the continued  growth of malware.

Morro is designed to be more than an antivirus and offers protection against other malware, including spyware, root kits, and Trojan horses. Morro’s release is planned to coincide with the 2009 release of Windows 7 and Service Pack 2 for Vista. The introduction of Morro is planned as a free offering designed to replace Windows Live OneCare. The free Morro from Microsoft will utilize the same malware protection engine as Windows Live OneCare and will not be offered as a security suite with additional non-security features.

By offering such basic protection at no charge to the consumer, Microsoft is promoting a safer environment for PCs, service providers and e-commerce itself, since it is through unprotected PCs that the worst threats are introduced to the system as a whole,”  added Roger Kay, founder and president of Endpoint Technologies Associates.

As Microsoft readies for the release of several important software publications in the next few weeks, stay tuned to Onsite Computer for updated news about the latest products from Microsoft.
