Best Buy to Market Windows 7 Upgrade Guarantee on June 26

June 8, 2009

At Onsite Computer Services in New Orleans we take interest in almost all Microsoft news, at this time we especially prize news regarding Windows 7.  Last week, June 1, some good news for the consumer market surfaced via leaked memo from Best Buy.  Best Buy plans to start selling Vista-based PCs that qualify for the free upgrade to Windows 7 on June 26.

According to Best Buy, “…This new operating system isn’t just a ‘Vista that works’ program – it’s a new operating system with improved productivity, functionality and creativity that uses less computer resources.” Best Buy plans to offer its “Technology Guarantee” program which presents customers who purchase a PC that runs Vista Home Premium, Business, or Ultimate between June 26 and the Win 7 launch will get a free Windows 7 upgrade.

The leaked memo further states on June 26 Best Buy will run a web-based, pre-order program for Windows 7 upgrades from its Best Buy’s website for 16 days.  Upgrades to Windows 7 Home Premium, targeted at home users, will cost Vista users $49.99, Updates to Windows 7 Professional, targeted at business users, will cost $99.99. Compared to current upgrade prices for Vista, the Windows 7 deals are relatively cheap. Online retailer Newegg, for instance, sells the Vista Home Premium SP1 Upgrade for $123, and the Vista Business SP1 Upgrade for $188.

At Onsite Computer Services we are happy with the Windows 7 news and are excited with the release of new operating system from Microsoft.  Stay tuned as we attempt to publish all the news our Microsoft clients want to know.
