OEMs Get Windows 7 Release to Manufacture in July

The news from Microsoft’s Steve Guggenheimer, the OEM Division’s Vice President, to Onsite Computer Services in New Orleans is the Windows 7 Release to Manufacturing (RTM) code will be available to Microsoft OEM partners in the second half of July. The Wall Street Journal, revealed yesterday Windows 7 will become generally available to the retail market on October 22.

Microsoft revealed that it will offer an upgrade option so that PC makers can offer customers the ability to purchase a Windows Vista-based PC and install Windows 7 when it’s ready.  Some rumor the upgrade to Windows 7 from Vista Home Premium and above may be free.
