Microsoft Vista and 2008 Server SP2

March 10, 2009

Microsoft business clients of Onsite Computer Services in New Orleans are abuzz with talk of Microsoft fulfilling its promise of a quick delivery of SP2 for Windows Vista and Windows 2008 server. From Onsite’s experience, businesses will see few significant updates, the greatest upgrade improvements seem to address search capabilities with the release of Search 4.

Many may allege SP2 is really not a service pack – at least not a cumulative SP. To install SP2, SP1 is required. Unlike SP1 which delivered important upgrades like UAC improvements and faster file transfer speeds, SP2 is notably devoid of any noticeable updates for both Windows Vista and 2008 Server. Some may contend Microsoft is saving all future Vista enhancements for the release of Windows 7.

Onsite advises its clients with Microsoft Vista and 2008 Server systems to wait until the final release of the gold SP2 to update their appropriate systems.
