Economic Contraction and Microsoft Clients in New Orelans

December 15, 2008

Lately, visits to the Microsoft business clients of Onsite Computer Services in New Orleans are completely abuzz with talk of the economy.  Since the inception of Onsite in 1995, economic pessimism seems to run rampant as most contend their businesses are facing reduced revenues that exceed post-Katrina New Orleans.  Many believe the unwinding of the world’s economic excesses of the past will not be quick.  Some contend most have no conception of the true depth of our present economic contraction and recovery will require several years.

Opinions of how to fix the situation are quite diverse.  Some contend the free market should be allowed to work its Darwinian magic as with Merrill Lynch and Lehmann Brothers.  Others contend the US Treasury (i.e. taxpayers) should continue to heave economic resources at the problem as with AIG; however many argue the Treasury’s efforts via TARP have thus far produced little relief.

Last week, news of the incredible Bernard Madoff $50 Billion Ponzi scheme was revealed.  Some contend Madoff’s scheme is simply the first failure of several unregistered and unregulated investment vehicles, and in the near future other failures will manifest as the economy continues to contract and investors capitulate.  Should the Madoff investors have access to TARP relief?

From Onsite’s perspective, the present economic contraction is not stimulating revenue as business owners feel the ripple effects of the weakening economy and attempt to cut expenses.  The present trend at Onsite is repairing older equipment instead of performing PC and server upgrades. Do not forget the importance of backup as hard disk failure is the most common malady Onsite encounters.  Are you stretching the life of your IT systems in an effort to shrink expenses?  How’s your backup and disaster recovery plan?  Call Onsite Computer Services in New Orleans to evaluate your present disaster response strategy BEFORE disaster strikes.
