Onsite Computer Experiences HP vs. Dell

June 11, 2008

Yesterday, a new Onsite Computer client, Thomas Dutel of Dutel Homes, called for service of his Microsoft network.  Upon Onsite’s arrival we noticed two new HP desktops and a new HP Laser in addition to several older Dell desktops and an older Dell ‘all-in-one’ printer.  As we began our network installation project, we asked Mr. Dutel why he is changing from Dell to HP products.

Upon beginning his passionate answer, Mr. Dutel’s blood pressure was obviously on the rise.  Mr. Dutel began a vociferous explanation of his experiences with Dell.  Dell’s confusing pricing/marketing strategy, their ability to deliver the correct order in a timely fashion, their insufficient customer service, their exploding laptop batteries, their overall reduction in quality, and the hours of tech support from Dell employees seem to have taken their toll on Mr. Dutel.  Mr. Dutel explained his former love affair with Dell products has changed to a refusal to purchase Dell products in the future.

Mr. Dutel is not an isolated example.  There is a reason HP is overtaking Dell as the leader in PC sales.  Some may say that in Dell’s effort to increase profitability through cost reductions has come at the expense of quality and reflects a loss of market share by Dell.  A Google of Dell’s legal problems yields a plethora of dissatisfaction with the former leader in PC sales.  In the past, Onsite recommended Dell products; however the PC market is constantly changing.  According to Onsite experience, HP seems to be the new manufacturer of choice for quality products and service.
