XP SP3 and Microsoft Internet Explorer 6, 7, 8 – Onsite Comment

June 10, 2008

From Onsite Computer’s experience, service packs often come with a special set of Microsoft concerns.  The most recent issue we discovered when installing the XP SP3 with different versions of the Internet Explorer browser.

Based on Onsite experience, if IE 8 is installed, XP SP3 cannot install bercause of instability problems.  IE 8 must be uninstalled before the installation of XP SP3.  The only IE options with XP SP3 are IE6 and IE7.

If IE7 is installed prior to SP3, Microsoft will not allow a downgrade to IE6.  In order to downgrade to IE6, SP3 must be uninstalled, along with IE7.  Following the downgrade to IE6, XP SP3 is supposed to work after a re-installation.

Although these are minor concerns, a tech should be aware of these restrictions before embarking on an XP SP3 installation. Are you confused, YET?
