Onsite Computer and Microsoft® Windows® Small Business Server 2003 R2

Onsite Computer in New Orleans recommends Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2 (SBS 2003 R2) as a comprehensive and powerful small business IT solution.

When planning a network, the need to organize the who, what and where of your business network is a prime focus.   We need to know who will connect to the network, what resources they will use and where they will print.  Consider the following information.

WHO:   Who will connect to the network?  Will every user have a PC at their desk or will more than one user share a PC?  If users share a computer, would you be better served by logging into the network with a generic name like “teller” or “clerk?”  Do you want to use passwords to limit access to the network?  Should users be required to change their passwords periodically?

WHAT:  The purpose of the network is to share applications, data and resources such as Internet access, fax, modem and printers.   Do you have sensitive information that should be shared by only one or a particular set of users?  Do you have groups or departments that will need access to the same information and resources?    Each user will have their own subdirectory to store personal files.  You may also wish to create some shared folders that all users can access for common information.   Will every user be allowed to access the Internet?    How will you handle outgoing and incoming faxes?

WHERE: Printed output is an important part of the network.  All users can share some printers.  Other printers may function as a group device or for a local user.  Users can print to more than one printer but have a default printer for the majority of their printing.

This is just the beginning of the planning process.  Let Onsite design you system with your needs in mind.
