New Orleans Onsite Computer and Microsoft XP SP3

April 29, 2008

Today a client searching for New Orleans computer service and repair of their Microsoft system called Onsite Computer to address a problem with his HP printer.  The particular printer is an ‘All-in-one’ Laser Jet 3030.  After Goggling his error message, it became apparent many experienced the same problem.  Tech support at HP failed to have a solution other than to uninstall SP3.

HP is notorious for printer driver issues, especially with the inexpensive products.  The client’s printer was discontinued by HP about a year ago.  HP has little incentive to address the driver issues on discontinued products.  Since the printer is four years old, the client is faced with the decision to purchase a new printer or uninstall SP3.  Incompatible driver issues with updated software is always a consideration.  Some may contend ‘planned obsolescence’ is at work.  Our client needs his Windows XP SP3 so he elected to purchase a new printer.  What would you do?
