Onsite New Orleans discovers Microsoft Anti-Piracy and Office

April 25, 2008

Today a client of Onsite Computer Services in New Orleans offered an interesting Microsoft problem:  the client’s Office software was counterfeit.  The client was receiving a pop-up box informing them their Microsoft Office software is not genuine.  When asked, the client recalled purchasing the ‘Microsoft’ software from an Internet site.  As one might assume, the Internet site is no longer in operation.

Counterfeit software is a problem for Microsoft.  Microsoft is devoting a significant amount of resources to reduce the problem with their Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) initiative.  If Microsoft software is deemed counterfeit, all access to updates and security patches is prevented.  Additionally, the pop-up nag screens are relentless with their ‘not genuine’ message.  Unknowingly purchasing counterfeit Microsoft software is a problem:  the client loses program functionality and the client loses their money.

Microsoft has new licensing procedures in effect.  We discussed the new licensing options from Microsoft in an earlier post on this blog.  If you’re in the market for legitimate Microsoft software, call Onsite Computer Services in New Orleans.
