Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 3

April 21, 2008

Yesterday, April 21, 2008, Onsite Computer Services began installing Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 3 for one of our large enterprise clients.  XP Service Pack 3 comes at a time when fresh installs of XP Service Pack 2 involve the added installation of almost 100 updates, for improved security and network operability, from the Microsoft update site.

Although XP Service Pack 3 is presently available to PC manufacturers and volume licensing clients, all other users must wait until April 29 for downloads.  Beginning on June 10, 2008, Microsoft plans mandatory installation of SP3 from its update site.

From our brief experience with SP3 we noticed little improvement in XPs operability; however SP3 is far more efficient than the added installation of ~100 updates to new XP SP2 systems.
